Our great freedom fighters and national leaders shed their blood to achieve independence from foreign regimes. The contribution of freedom fighters of the country inspired us due to their nationalist activities which resulted to fight for the freedom of the country. In Goa too we cannot forget the contribution of Namdev Harmalakar who broke the barricades of Aguada jail and swam across the sea till Miramar. We have Mohan Ranade, Sudhatai Joshi who taught us self respect, pride and dignity because of which Goa attained liberation in 1961, said educationist shri. Prakash Vajrikar. Shri. Vajrikar delivered the first lecture Organized by the Department of Information and Publicity at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda commemorated as ‘Goa Utsav’ as a part of Goa@60 and Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.

Stressing on the importance of our mother tongue, he said language is important to maintain the identity of an individual. While understanding our history it is important to understand the origin of our mother tongue, its identity and history. We can find traces of Konkani in Karnataka and also in Dnyaneshwari, he added.

Tracing the history of Goa he highlighted the conditions in Goa during pre and post liberation period and also spoke on the unknown facts of Goan revolution.

Assistant Director of Youth and Sports affairs Dr. Vivek Pawar, Assistant Physical Education Officer of  Ponda Taluka Smt. Neelam Mayekar, Taluka Sports Organizer of Ponda Taluka Shri. Prakash Satarkar, Programme Officer Sushma Gobre, national level folk artist Shri. Ladu Parwar and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Students and teachers of Sarvodaya Education Society also attended the function.

Audio Visual film/video on the topic History of Goa right from ages was also screened on the occasion.

Information Officer Shri. Prakash Naik who welcomed the gathering explained the purpose of organizing public lectures across the state to enlighten the general public and particularly the student community about the history of Goa besides other aspects of Goa. He also informed that apart from lecture series the Department which is the Nodal Department for conducting programmes to celebrate diamond jubilee of Goa’s Liberation has also organized various programmes at the taluka level. The closing ceremony of the 60th year of Goas liberation will be held on December 19, 2021. He also proposed the vote of thanks.
