On the occasion of commencement of 71st Wildlife Week Celebration and Gandhi jayanti Goa Forest department and Indian Army jointly organised Mega plastic collection at Miramar beach which commenced near Marriott hotel and ended at Caranzalem. The school students from various schools from Panaji participated in the event with full enthusiasm. The mega plastic collection drive was formally launched by Shri Rajiv Kumar Gupta IFS, PCCF Goa forest Dept in distinguished presence of Major Divakar of 2 STC , Indian Army Shri Santosh Kumar Chief Wildlife Warden Goa , Shri Saurabh Kumar Chief Conservator of Forests, and Shri Anand Jadhav DCF Wildlife and Ecotourism. The gathering was address by PCCF and APCCF highlighting the importance of reduce, reuse and recycle of Garbage , they also stressed on conserving ecology of tourist places by acting responsibly . There were about 100 Indian army personnel who participated in the drive and gathered non biodegradable waste from the beach.

The various school students who participated in the event were Mary Immaculate Girls high school, Auxilium High School, Rosary High School, Progress High school and NCC cadets of Dhempe collage. Some responsible local visitors also joined in support of the event. The plastic collected was handed over to KCIC who also were part of the drive, it was seen that total plastic collected was about 280 Kgs approximately. The plastic collection drive was extended into sand dune vegetation along the beach. The Forest department staff of various ranks participated in the event and arrangement for the same was done by Range Forest Office, Wildlife Campal and staff. The plastic collection drive activity commenced at 9.00 am and ended at 11.30 am, it was planned and executed for generating awareness among general public to pass on the message of acting responsibly. Each student participants efforts and enthusiasm was appreciated and as token of appreciation certificate of appreciation will be awarded to each student who partivipated in event. The programme ended with vote of thanks extended by Shri Amit Gemawat ACF. The programme was coordinated and compared by Shri Paresh Porob ACF under able guidance of Shri Anand Jadhav DCF.
