  3. SHIRODKAR URGES PEOPLE TO TAKE AGRICULTURE IN LARGE SCALE

Minister for WRD, Shri Subhash Shirodkar underlining the Government objective to be self-reliant in the agricultural field said augmentation and improvement of water supply to agricultural lands will be undertaken on top priority to cater to the needs of the sector.

Speaking at a public meeting held at Ajoba Devasthan Keri Sattari today, Shri Shirodkar expressed surprise that no one raised issues related to agriculture. People are expecting only Government jobs rather than exploring other avenues of employment. Government, he said, has laid the thrust on strengthening infrastructure for water irrigation and appealed to the people to take the benefit of irrigation and take up agriculture on a large scale to be prosperous.

The Minister further said the government is investing in the construction of bandharas, dams in the State to provide adequate water for cultivation purposes. He urged the people to take up agriculture on a large scale by utilizing the water from all these sources.

MLA & Chairperson GFD, Dr Deviya Rane thanking the Minister in his endeavour to address the water problem in the constituency said that the problem of water in various Panchayats in Sattari taluka would be resolved after the improvement of the proposed water treatment plant at Morlem Colony.

Dr. Rane stressed on the need of taking up agriculture as our future need. Agriculture has potential to provide income and called upon the youths to change the tendency to depend on Government jobs only. she appealed to turn towards agriculture she reiterated.

Minister for Water Resources Shri Subhash Shirodkar along with MLA & Chairperson of GFDC Dr. Mrs. Deviya Rane during his tour in Poriem Constituency visited Morlem Village pumping station and reviewed the issues concerning water supply in these area and discussed with concern authorities on augmenting water supply in Poriem Constituency.

During his tour the Minister also visited Keri Ajoba Devasthan to inspect the lake to be beautified and later to Anjuna dam to inspect/discuss the renovation work to be taken up soon. The Minister handed over work orders of cleaning of main canals to 22 Water Distribution Societies engaged in this task.
