ice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu appealed to preserve nature and culture for future and urged not to destruct nature. Vice President was speaking after inaugurating new state of the Art Building Complex of Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College of Arts and Commerce at Virnoda, Pernem today.
 
The function was graced by the Governor of Goa, Shri P. S.  Sreedharan Pillai. Also present on the occasion were Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Tourism, Shri Shripad Naik, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manohar Azgaonkar, Shri Dayanand Sopte, MLA and GTDC Chairman and Shri Parimal Rai, IAS, Chief Secretary.
 
Vice President of India Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu said, Goa and its people hold a special place in my heart and I feel re-energized whenever I visit this beautiful place. Higher education is very important as it provides the much-needed trained human resources for various sectors that drive economic growth and societal well-being, he added.
 
Stressing on education Vice President said, quality higher education is invariably a hallmark of all developed economies. It prepares students for more meaningful and productive roles and plays an important role in improving the standards of living. He expressed his happiness for Goa as it is performing well in the field of higher education.
 
Shri Naidu said, it is praiseworthy that in the true spirit of National Education Policy 2020, the Government of Goa has planned to set up Goa State Research Foundation to provide Research Fellowships for carrying out research work in multidisciplinary projects. I am sure this initiative will yield and promote excellence in research and innovation in the field of Higher Education, he added.
 
Mentioning about the Goan contribution on universal arena Vice President said, many eminent Indian personalities were either born in Goa or trace their roots to this naturally beautiful and culturally vibrant state.  Goans has excelled in various fields  – in the field of music, we have Bharat Ratna Smt. Lata Mangeshkar, Padma Vibhushan Smt. Asha Bhosle and Shri Remo Fernandes to name a few. In the field of Science and research; Padma Vibhushan Shri Raghunath Anant Mashelkar, Padma Vibhushan Shri Anil Kakodkar and in the field of international fashion, there is Padmashri Wendell Rodricks among others.
 
Talking about the Pernem village, the Vice President said, it is the northern most taluka of Goa that was in the forefront of Goa’s Liberation struggle. The Satyagraha of 1954-1955 is an event of great historical significance involving sacrifice and martyrdom and generating the momentum towards the liberation movement. Apart of this Pernem has the distinction and privilege of being home to other eminent personalities like Bhau Daji Laad, Jivba Dada Kerkar, Anjanibai Malpekar, Shridhar Parsekar and Prabhakar Panshikar, the Vice President added.
 
Addressing the students and public the Governor, Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai said that the new National Education Policy 2020 will make substantial change in the education arena. He said this was the long pending demand as regards to education system.
 
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, when we speak about the education infrastructure, Goa always tops on the list. He said, Goa is having best infrastructure in education sector. He said it is a proud movement for Pednekars as Sohirobanath Ambiye College is having one of the best facilities in the State along with Sankhali Government College, he added.
 
Chief Minister appreciated the College for forming a ‘Cluster Research Centre in Commerce’ in collaboration with other Colleges of Goa to provide a joint platform for facilitating research in Commerce.
 
Chief Minister also praised the work of Directorate of Higher Education for taking various initiatives towards achieving educational excellence through DISHTAVO holistic and conducive knowledge ecology.
 
Addressing the gathering Shri Shripad Naik praised the work of State Government in the field of education. He said the state Government has successfully developed infrastructure to uplift educational status in the State.
 
Shri Manohar Azgaonkar, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manohar Azgaonkar welcomed the guests. Shri Parimal Rai, IAS proposed vote of thanks. Smt Siddhi Upadhey compered the function.
