PANAJI: Department of Tourism issued a circular stating that the stringent action will be initiated against those found operating tourism boats to ferry tourists without obtaining proper registration or renewal with the tourism department.
The department came out with the circular after unregistered boat, vessel number GOA – 1801 – WS, capsized near the shore at Baga Creek while returning from a ride with 12 passengers on board, who were safely rescued from the water by swift response of Drishti Marine Lifeguards.
Following the incident, Department of Tourism officials seized the boat, owned by Ralph Mascarenhas, for operating without registration and compliance with the Department of Tourism.
The boat, which was discovered with its motors removed, was promptly secured by the officials. The Department of Tourism repeatedly emphasizes that the operation of unauthorized boats in Goa’s waters is a serious violation of state regulations and poses significant risks to passenger safety.
Speaking after the incident, Minister for Tourism Rohan A Khaunte said “Unregistered boats not only jeopardize the safety of tourists but also undermine the standards we are setting for sustainable and responsible tourism in Goa. Let this incident serve as a clear message that we will not tolerate any violations. The Department of Tourism is committed to creating a secure and enjoyable experience for everyone visiting our beautiful state.”
Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director of Tourism, stated, “The safety and well-being of our visitors are our top priority. We will continue to take strict action against any unregistered activities in our waters. Boat operators must comply with all regulatory requirements to ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future.”
