PANAJI: The Congress leaders on Saturday came down heavily on the BJP government saying it is responsible for COVID spike in Goa, where thousands of cases are increasing every passing day and still the government has failed to create COVID care centers in other government hospitals, and only dependent on GMC.
“Very insensitive Chief minister Pramod Sawant has failed to learn from the past, because of whom thousands of patients succumbed to COVID. Now again he is committing the same mistakes and so far have not done provision of COVID care centers other than GMC.” Adv. Varad Mardolkar, President of Goa Youth Congress, said.
Adv. Mardolkar along with GPCC Vice president Janardhan Bhandar, Youth Congress General Secretary Archit Naik and Saish Aroskar on Saturday addressed a press conference and lambasted the BJP government.
Adv. Mardolkar said that despite the cases being on the rise in neighboring states, the Chief Minister allowed parties and ‘Sunburn’ festival. “At present BJP leaders, including Sadanand Shet Tanavade and Rohan Khaunte are campaigning with more than 150 people. They are violating COVID protocol. But not action has been taken on them.” Mardolkar said.
He said that Congress leader Michael Lobo, who was addressing a press conference in Cumbarjua was restrained by a flying squad. “Why action only on Congress. BJP is misusing government machinery against Congress.”He said.
He said that the government has also failed to monitor private hospitals and private laboratories who are charging beyond the capped rate for antigen and RTPCR. “Govt should take action against them or it will be proved that this is new scam by BJP.” He said.
Janaradhan Bhandari lamented saying people are suffering because of mismanagement by BJP. “ Pramod Sawant failed in the last two waves of COVID, and now again he is taking it lightly. Amidst this he is campaigning to get more five years of power. Why does he wants power again to make people suffer.” Bhandari questioned.
