
Goa is moving towards self-sufficiency asserted Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant and cited the example that vegetables grown in the state of Goa are now exported to other states.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant was speaking after inaugurating second Krishi Mohotsav in the state organised by Directorate of Agriculture at Ravindra Bhavan Sankhali today.
Chief Minister emphasized on the schemes of Fisheries Department such as matsya sampada and Blue revolution which will help to keep the vision high in order to make Goa self sustainable. The call to make the country Atmanirbhar by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi helped us in making Goa Swayampurna, Dr Sawant added.
Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant said that the Government’s aim is to reach to the last person of the society and the State administration is working in that direction.
20 crores were disbursed to the dairy farmers of the State. Piggery and goat farming are also flourishing in the State, he said. Goa Biodiversity Board is in the process to set up a food processing unit in each taluka of the State by next year. These units will purchase every agriculture product at source and after processing will yield a good market rate, the Chief Minister added.
Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister, Shri Chandrakant Kavlekar spoke about his contribution as Minister in strengthening the agriculture sector. He said, in last two years his Department has streamlined various state as well as central Government schemes.
The Government is working to make Goa an agricultural State. The Government has also helped the farmers by providing financial help from the Chief Ministers Relief Fund during pandemic period Shri Kavlekar pointed.
Deputy Chief Minister further said the Government is working hard to see that farmers are not facing any difficulties, with regards to Government subsidy, as it is directly transferred in the farmers account.
Presentations on various schemes were made by officials of the Department of Agriculture, Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and other Departments.
Present on the occasion for this Krishi Mohotsav were, Deputy Shri Ramesh Tawadkar, Former Agriculture Minister; Shri Vasu Meng Gaonkar, Former MLA; Smt Shamila Monteiro, Director of Fisheries, Shri Shirish Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Shri Gopal Surlakar, Zilla Panchayat Member, Shri Vithoba Ghadi, Vice Chairperson, Ravindra Bhavan, Sandeep Faldessai, Managing Director, Horticulture Corporation.
Shri Vishnu Natekar, a farmer from Surla spoke about his experience in the agriculture field.
Agriculturists from North Goa were felicitated at the hands of the Chief Minister by offering Shawl, Sriphal and a memento.
Smt. Daya Tendulkar compered and Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Shri Nevil Alphonso welcomed the guests.
