
During the last 6 months the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has granted 44 retail and 15 wholesale fresh licenses under Drugs Rules 1945. The Drugs Inspectors of the Directorate conducted surprise inspections of chemist and druggist/pharmacies and wholesale drugs dealers to ensure that the dealers adhere to the provision of Drug Rules, 1945.
The drug enforcement cell has conducted 325 surprise inspections of sales premises for the period from April 2022 till Sep 2022 and has issued show cause notices to 102 drug sales firms and issued warning to 73 drug sales firms, for various violations.
Licences of 7 chemists and druggists have been suspended for a period of 1 to 2 days for various violations such as sale of scheduled drugs without the supervision of Registered Pharmacist, sale of drugs without the prescription of Registered Medical Practitioner, etc.
The Drugs Inspectors also draw samples of drugs to check the quality of drugs which are manufactured and sold in the state; on a regular basis. For the period from April 2022 till Sept 2022 around 467 samples of drugs and cosmetics were drawn by the Drugs Inspectors from various government institutions and drug sale premises and sent to the Drugs Control laboratory at Bambolim, and for the above period, 3 samples were declared as Not of Standard Quality.
