Goa Forward Party President and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai today questioned the Government on carrying the capacity studies in Goan villages facing unregulated growth and failing infrastructure. Citing Gram Sabha resolutions from Nuem (4th May), Benaulim (19th May), Karmali (27th June), and Chorao (19th January), Sardesai pointed out that the Panchayats are not equipped to do these studies and have formally asked the Government to step in.
“These resolutions are clear. The Gram Sabha’s want a study to protect their villages. Why is the Government silent?” he asked.
Sardesai exposed Goa’s rural waste infrastructure: 20 out of 30 villages in Salcete, 10 of 11 in Quepem, and even key growth hubs in Tiswadi lack adequate Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). In Majorda, the MRF has even been constructed on questionable land. Over 90% of villages have no system to manage sanitary waste.
He also raised another critical question: are authorities studying traffic load and road capacity before granting permissions? “If not, is the Government willing to start now?” Sardesai demanded.
He warned that the continued neglect of planning is pushing Goa’s villages towards collapse.
