PANAJI: Revolutionary Goans Chief, Manoj Parab alleged that the state government is creating infrastructure only for the coal industry despite opposition to coal transportation and major infrastructure projects coming up in the state. The so-called ‘development’ carried out in Goa is destroying the livelihood and landscape.
“The Canacona MLA, Isidore Fernandes has failed to keep pace with development and the constituency has been left without any basic civic amenities till date, six decades after Liberation it continues to remain cut off from the rest of Goa under the various leadership heads. Isidore switched sides to join the BJP, criticised his former party for being a divided house and stated that everyone in Congress is bothered about themselves. What has he done for the people from his constituency asking him to prove it,” said Manoj at a public meeting at Canacona.
“Maximum comunidade land here has been sold to outsiders. Over 2 lakh square meters of comunidade land in Poinguinim has been sold to an outsider. People were using this land earlier to grow cashew and for their livelihood. The hilly region in Ganebag- Galgibag, Talpona and the coastal line has been encroached upon by illegal migrants and the real estate lobby,” he added.
With the State witnessing a massive influx of migrants in the recent past, it has come to light that of 200-odd shops in Chaudi more than half are owned by non-Goans. First of all Goans do not have jobs and are being forced out to foreign countries to earn a living.
“To make matters worse these migrants have taken over our traditional businesses of selling bread, fish, vegetables and a few others which were initially operated by the Goans. They are now also seen to be engaged in agricultural activities across the villages,”
One can recall that last year Revolutionary Goans staged a rally, ‘Coal Revolt’ from Patradevi to Polem in Canacona, as part of its State-wide Padyatra to oppose coal transportation in Goa. People from across Goa joined RG Supremo, Manoj Parab and his members to protest against the coal hub in Goa.
