On 27/05/2025 at around 19:45 hrs, a tragic road accident occurred in front of Yamuna General Store, Camarkhajan, Mapusa, in which a 12-year-old pedestrian girl, Miss Akanshaya Boro, sustained grievous injuries after being hit by a motorcycle. She later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Mapusa.
Subsequent investigation by Mapusa Police revealed that the motorcycle bearing registration number GA-03-AU-7xx0 was being ridden by a 16-year-old minor boy (Child in Conflict with Law – CCL) without a valid driving licence. He was accompanied by Mr. Reehaan Shaikh (18 years) as pillion, with the motorcycle owned and permitted for use by Mr. Shabbir Kassim Shaikh (48 years), father of the minor.
Despite being fully aware that the CCL was unlicensed, Mr. Shabbir allowed his minor son to ride the motorcycle on a major public road, posing a serious threat to public safety. Mr. Reehaan Shaikh, the pillion rider, also knew the minor was not licensed but still accompanied him. Following the collision, both the CCL and Mr. Reehaan fled the scene without informing the police or providing any medical aid to the victim. They later attempted to conceal the incident by shifting the damaged motorcycle to another location.
Accordingly, a case has been registered at Mapusa Police Station vide Cr. No. 80/2025 under the following sections: Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), 105, 45 & 46 of BNS 2023 R/W Sections 134(a) and 134(b) of MV Act.
Shabbir Kassim Sheikh and Reehan have been arrested in this case and are in Police custody. A report against the CCL will be sent to Juvenile Justice Board.
The case has been forwarded to the JMFC, Mapusa, and further investigation is ongoing.
Goa Police appeals to all citizens to refrain from allowing unlicensed minors to operate motor vehicles. Such irresponsible actions can lead to fatal consequences and legal liability. Strict enforcement action will continue to ensure road safety and accountability.
