MINING LIKELY TO RESTART WITH AUCTIONING OF MINES: CM

PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday hinted that the government will restart mining activity preferably through auctioning of mines with focus on mining workers even as forming a Corporation is another option to restart mining in Goa.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Porvorim, Sawant said that the government will choose between auctioning of mines and forming a Corporation to resume mining activity. It will most likely be auction of mines and a decision will be taken within next eight days.

Sawant said, “We are not thinking of miners but of the small people such as mining workers, the trucks drivers and others who may be rendered unemployed. They should not be ousted, Sawant also said that he would meet the members of Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association (GMOEA) regarding this issue on Monday itself.
