Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, during Zero Hour, raised issue of sudden retrenchment of around 84 workers by Sesa Resources Ltd. (Vedanta)-Surla Sonshi, on 26th July, 2025. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured to resolve issue.

“In a suddenly summoned meeting with the Union committee, the Company officials declared the retrenchment.” He said, and demanded to reinstate these workers.

Alemao said that the matter of workers in in the High Court. “There is a stay on the earlier retrenchment order. There was hearing on 29th July, however they were retrenched three days before that,” Alemao said.
He said that why the mining companies are fostering trend of retrenchment, when government is confident to resume mining operations in the state.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he will resolve the issue of workers retrenchment.
