PANAJI: The Goa Investment Promotion Board (IPB) on Wednesday accorded its approval to nine projects, including two by multinational corporations (MNCs), with a total investment of Rs 733 crore. Goa IPB held its 38th meeting under the chairpersonship of the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, during which emphasis was laid to ensure that maximum number of jobs created through these projects are provided for locals. The proposed employment potential of these nine projects is Rs 2,319 crors.
“The kind of projects approved include pharmaceutical manufacturing, warehousing, machine
Tools, manufacturing and beverage manufacturing.” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a
statement issued post meeting.
The meeting, which was also attended by the Indus tries Minister Mauvin Godinho, directed the industry association representatives on the Board to coordinate with government agencies towards skilling of Goans. CMO said that the project includes an expansion by Procter & Gamble, under their subsidiary ‘Gillette Diversified Operations, ho will be manufacturing multi-vitamin tablets and food graded softgel capsules. There is also a project from Zydus Lifesciences, who will be manufacturing Repsules in a new unit proposed by then. “Both these projects are by MNCs who have chosen Goa as their manufacturing base over many other countries in the world. This shows the ever-improving Ease of doing business in Goa as well as export competitiveness of the State,” CMO said.
CMO further informed that the Government has granted industry status to Logistics sector under which M/s Express Machines and Scaffolding was duly approved by the Board to set up another large warehousing facility in the State.
One of the earlier approved eco-tourism projects of the Board in Quepem region, which is now branded under Indian Hotels Corporation was granted approval for expansion thereby showcasing the popularity of Goa both as industrial as well as tourism destination, CMO said.
