Considering the multiple civic issues primarily the spiralling garbage menace despite the best efforts of the panchayat body, the erratic power and water supply, the pathetic conditions of the internal roads, the Gram Sabha of VP Velsao-Pale-Issorcim, Mormugao Taluka passed a resolution to immediately ban the issuance of construction license for multi dwelling units and mega projects within the jurisdiction of the village panchayat until a comprehensive exercise is conducted by the State Government to determine the carrying capacity of each of the three (3) villages. The resolution was proposed by Mrs. Sandra Rodrigues and received overwhelming support of all the villagers.
The Sarpanch Mrs. Maria Diana Gouveia while thanking the gram sabha and all her panchayat members expressed her desire to safeguard all the water bodies, the paddy fields, the agriculture land and the hills in the village and stated that henceforth no construction licences for multi dwelling or mega projects will be granted by the panchayat and appealed to the villagers to maintain the identity and the unique culture of the villages at all costs.
Gram sabha member Manuel Rodrigues while appealing for better infrastructure especially uninterrupted power supply insisted that the villagers have to join hands to arrest the rapid urbanisation which will be disastrous to the villagers in the long run.
Mrs. Sandra Rodrigues who had moved the resolution also appealed that her long standing demand to provide access to her and her neighbours from being landlocked by the illegal occupation of their Right of Way by the South Western Railways and it’s contractor RVNL which have denied them the use of their traditional access from their heritage residences to the market place in Velsao.
Panch Tecla proposed the vote of thanks.
