The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) is deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred during the Shirgao Jatra, where a stampede claimed innocent lives and left several others injured. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time of immense grief.

We also wish a speedy and complete recovery to all those who have been injured. The GPCC stands in solidarity with the affected families and the entire community of Shirgao.

We urge the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, to ensure that all necessary medical and financial assistance is immediately provided to the families of the deceased and the injured. We also request the State Government to extend full support to the Devasthan Committee to ensure the safe and smooth continuation of the remaining four days of the Lairai Jatra, which draws lakhs of devotees to Shirgao for the sacred Kaul of Devi.

It is imperative that adequate safety, crowd management, and emergency response measures be put in place to prevent any further mishaps during the ongoing celebrations.

The GPCC reiterates its commitment to the well-being and safety of the people of Goa and extends full support to any initiative aimed at preserving the sanctity and cultural significance of the Lairai Jatra.
