In line with the “Fit India” mission, Goans Hockey celebrated National Sports Day on August 29 with a special event at the Peddem Sports Complex, under the inspiring theme, “Ek Ghanta, Khel ke Maidan mein” (One hour on the sports field). The event brought together hockey enthusiasts from across the state to honor the legacy of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
The celebration kicked off with a spirited friendly hockey match, showcasing the vibrant hockey community in Goa. The game saw participation from players across all age groups and skill levels, including notable players like Mr. Felix ex-olympion, Mr. Swapnil Haldankar the State Senior Men’s Captain, and Miss Riddhi Hadfadkar the State Sub-Junior Captain. The match was a lively affair, with sub-junior, junior, senior, and veteran players all adding to the sporting spirit of the day.
Following the match, a formal function was held to commemorate the occasion. The function included insightful talks about the significance of National Sports Day and the contributions of Major Dhyan Chand. Brendan spoke about the importance of the day, while Praanjali Halankar delivered an engaging talk on the life and achievements of Major Dhyan Chand. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Abhay Bhamaikar, President of Goans Hockey, and Mr. Elliter Fernandes, a coach from the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG).


The celebration concluded with a fellowship session, which provided a platform for all attendees to interact and discuss the future of hockey in the state. This informal gathering fostered a sense of camaraderie and allowed for a free-flowing exchange of ideas among like-minded individuals dedicated to the betterment of the sport.
The entire event was brought together by the organising efforts from Goans Hockey EC Member Manoj Pednekar, Goans Hockey official Mr. Aviraj Madgaonkar and Goans Hockey EC member Praanjali Halankar.
Goans Hockey extends its gratitude to all the players, coaches, and members of the community who participated and made the National Sports Day celebration a resounding success. The organization remains committed to promoting and developing the sport of hockey in Goa and encourages everyone to adopt a fit and active lifestyle.
