PANAJI: In light of a notable increase in incidents involving aggressive dog attacks resulting in fatalities, and following the Central government’s initiative to encourage states to implement a ban on the import, breeding, and sale of specific dog breeds considered dangerous, the Goa cabinet has resolved to prohibit Rottweilers and Pitbulls through amendments to existing ordinances.
Following the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced the prohibition of these two ferocious dog breeds, and in response to inquiries regarding citizens who currently own these breeds, he stated that they must register with the animal husbandry department.
Additionally, the government has decided to revise the freedom fighter children scheme to ensure that approximately seventy children of freedom fighters who have already left can be offered government employment within six months. The cabinet also approved the establishment of a new department for drinking water, which will be separated from the Public Works Department (PWD). Consequently, the PWD will now focus solely on building and road-related matters, while the newly formed independent sewerage corporation will operate under the finance department.
