Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Tuesday said that Goa Foundation is “rakhandar” of Mother Goa’s Sindoor.
“It is the Goa Foundation which protects the “sindoor” of Goa from the TCP attacks. Goa’s identity is in land, fields, hills and forests, and selling this is erasing of ‘sindoor’ from Mother Goa’s forehead,” Alemao said, reacting to the order of the Supreme Court denying stay on the High Court order in respect of Section 17(2) and the ODPs affecting 42 lakh sq mt land in Goa.
“The threat to Goa is of land conversions, not religious conversions. The threat is of land grabbers and land bankers. The Chief Minister should repeal the anti-people amendments to the the TCP Act,” he further said.
Speaking about assembly session, he said that the Current procedure is unfair to the opposition.
“On the first day of assembly session all questions were asked by the ruling party. The same thing is happened on second day. As the custodian of the House, the Speaker should ensure justice for all seven opposition MLAs. A fair and equitable procedure should be followed. However, the current procedure is unfair to the opposition,” he said.
Poiniting how BJP is trying to divide people, he urged citizens to be vigilant.
“The Uniform Civil Code was introduced by the Portuguese in Goa, but Chief Minister Pramod Sawant seems to have forgotten this fact. On one hand, he advocates for erasing Portuguese signs from Goa, while on the other, he emphasizes the importance of the UCC. It is essential for people to recognize the contradictory statements and the BJP’s agenda, which appears to be driven by divisive politics and creating insecurity among citizens,” Alemao said.
