
“A good leader is that personality who takes the masses along with him and marches towards the goal. Mahatma Gandhi was that Great Leader who awaked the masses from their deep slumber to fight for their Mother land in a non-violent and peaceful manner” Said Dr. D.B. Arolkar at the function of “Fit India Freedom Run 2.0” on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2021 organised by the department of Physical Education and Sports at Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research centre, Assagao, Goa. Dr Arolkar further added that, “The important values of Mahatma that we need to emulate from him are his simplicity, hard work, his mantra of nonviolence and his power to motivate young, old and the women. The contribution of women in the freedom struggle should not be forgotten by the Nation and this was made possible by Gandhiji’s powerful messages”
The function began with the devotional songs by Ms. Yogita Karkanis, department of Geology and Dr D.B. Arolkar garlanded the portrait.
This was followed by a quiz competition on Gandhi’s life for the students and the staff of the college. Dr. Amrut Naik, department of Commerce and Dr. Purushottam Verlekar, department of Geology won the prizes. The Quiz was organised by Dr. M. Shanthi, Department of English.
A report on the activities organised by the department of Physical education under the guidance of Ministry of Youth Affairs, Govt of India were read out by Dr. M. Shanthi. She highlighted the various activities carried out at the College campus under the slogan “Fitness ka Dose Aadha Ghanta Roz” wherein student did Skipping rope, push ups, pull ups, running, jogging, cycling, weight training, cardio, circuit training exercises, badminton, table-tennis and many more activities from 20th September to 1st October 2021. 33 students participated in this event.
The Mega event “Fit India Freedom Run 2.0” began after the formal function with the great enthusiasm and vigour. 80 staff members and 70 students participated in the run. The participants were divided into six categories- Teaching staff- men and women, Support staff – men and women, Students- men and women. The run started from the college main building till Assagao School and back to the campus covering around 5 kms.
