CONGRESS ALLEGES BJP GOVT WANTS TO WEAKEN GOA LOKAYUKTA THROUGH AMENDMENTS
PANAJI: Opposition Congress Party on Friday alleged that proposed several amendments to Goa Lokayukta Act by the Goa Government is to weaken the institution and make it farcical.
Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat said that several amendment approved by the Goa Cabinet is an attempt to dilute the Act and weaken the institution, which was established to probe corruption against the government functionaries.
Former Union Minister Ramakant Khalap charged that the BJP Government is trying for escape route to avoid inquiries into the 23 reports on corruption against some politicians and government functionaries submitted by the former Goa Lokayukta Justice (Retd) P K Misra.
In one of the reports the then Lokayukta had recommended filing of FIR against former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and two others in illegal second renewal of 88 iron ore mining leases, Khalap said adding that if these cases are registered then it will have adverse effect on the BJP Government’s prospects in the next Goa Assembly elections.
