
PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will lead the people of the State in paying tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a great Maratha king, on the occasion of his Birth Anniversary to be celebrated at Farmagudi, Ponda on February 19. Various programmes will be held to mark the commemoration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti at the State Level function and also across the State.
This annual event will be organized by the Department of Information and Publicity.
The day-long programme will commence at 8.30 am with Dhol Tasha Pathak performance by Jagdambh, Ponda, Goa and presentation (Singing) of Powadas by Bal Bhavan Children. This will be followed by garlanding of the Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a legendary Maratha warrior at Farmagudi fort premises at 8.45 am by Dr Pramod Sawant, followed by offering of flower petals at the pedestal (portrait) of the Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by Minister for Agriculture Ravi Naik; WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar; minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude;Power Minister Ramkrishna Dhavlikar; Ponda Municipal Council Chairperson Anand Naik; Bandora Panchayat Sarpanch Ramchandra Naik; Kavlem ZP Member Ganpat D Naik; Information and Publicity Secretary Ramesh Verma (IAS); Department of Information and Publicity Director Dipak Bandekar, freedom fighters besides other dignitaries.
Thereafter Chief Minister will garland the burst of former Chief Minister of Goa, Late Dayanand Bandodkar at Farmagudi and other dignitaries will offer floral petals. The main function will be held in the precincts of Shree Ganapati Temple premises at Farmagudi.
Various competitions involving students will also be held in the precinct of Shree Ganapati Devasthan at Farmagudi on the same day. These include All Goa Inter Collegiate Quiz on the topic ‘Life, Times and legacy’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and All Goa Theatrical Entry (Natya Pravesh) Competition for students of High School and Higher Secondary Level on the life and work of Shivaji Maharaj from 9 am onwards at the precincts of Ganapati Temple premises at Farmagudi.
The highlight of the celebration will be the staging of historical dramas on life of Chhhatrapati Maharaj across the State from February 18 to February 26. These include drama “Shiv Sambhav” by Chourang, Nagueshi, Ponda at Main State level Function at the precinct of Gopal Ganapati Temple, Farmagudi on February 19 and at DonMmad, Keri, Sattari on February 20. Ravindra Bhavan, Baina Vasco on February 18, 2025 “Kareen Tee Purva” by Mahalaxmi Yuvak Sangh, Talauli. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj” by Madanant, Savoi Verem at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhlim on February 20 and at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on February 24. “Chhava” by Natya Tarang Goa, Pede, Mapusa on February 20 at Shivjayanti Samaroh Samitee hall, Korgao, Pernem. “Jai Shivrai” by Sai Purva Arts, Carambolim on February 19 at Nanu Village Hall, Marcela and Shivpremee Pratisthan, Karmali on February 22. “Shiv Putra Shambhu” by Om Kala Srusthi, Nagueshi, Bandora at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem on February 20. Gajantlaxmi Sports and Cultural Club, Volvoi will stage “Swarajya Surya” at Kundai on February 21 and at Sacordem Education Society Hall, Socordem on February 22. “Maharashtracha Raja” at Shree Kalanath Devalaya Hall, Kalay by Shree Devi Ramayasati Sports Club, Kumbharjua on February 26 and “Raigadala Jevah Jag Yete”at Bhalbhim Somnath Devasthan Hall, Dabal, Dharbandora on February 26.
