CARNIVAL FLOATS PARADE IN GOA FROM 13 FEBRUARY
PANAJI: Despite municipal elections being postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic, Goa Government has decided to hold Carnival floats parade only in Panaji and Margao on 13 and 14 February.
Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Uday Madkaikar said that Carnival will be celebrated at Samba Square, Panaji for four days from 13 to 16 February.
When asked about how they will control the crowds, Madkaikar said the Government may issue some Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while organising Carnival. It is decision of the Government and the Department of Tourism, he said.
The total budget earmarked by the Department of Tourism for this year’s Carnival is Rs 20 lakh plus prize money.
Meanwhile, the CCP constituted Panaji Carnival Celebrations Committee under the chairmanship of Uday Madkaikar. CCP Deputy Mayor Vasant Agshikar is the vice chairman and Fancisco Martins is the president the Committee besides Tony Dias and Joaquim Telles are Vice presidents of the 12-member Committee.
Former King Momo Timoteo Fernandes has been appointed as special invitee of the Committee.
