Para TT and Blind Cricket Tournament part of Day 2 at the inclusive festival

Panaji, January 7th 2023-
All India Para Table Tennis Open Championship
As a part of Purple Fest; India’s one-of-a-kind, inclusive festival that embraces and celebrates Persons with disabilities (PwD), All India Para Table Tennis Open Championship Goa 2023 was organised by the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in association with Directorate of Social Welfare and Sports Authority of Goa. The event was inaugurated by Minister of Social Welfare Shri Subhash Phal Dessai, State Commisionar for Persons with disabilities Guruprasad Pawaskar along with Chief Guest, Minister for Sports and Youth affairs Govind Gaude at the Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Campal Goa here on Saturday. Also present for the inaugural were Secretary office of the State Commissioner for person with disabilities Taha Haaziq, Director of Sports Authority of Goa Geeta Nagvekar, and Moderator for Purple fest Sudesh Gaude.
140 participants from 15 different stateswere part of the Tournament with 82 standing players and 58 wheelchair players. The players are classified into two class: 1-5 for Wheelchair Category and 6-10 for standing category. Unuma Pilgaokar, a Goan wheelchair player is also part of the championship.
Minister for Sports and Youth affairs Govind Gaude expressed happiness over the event. “The Goa Government has to come out with the Sports policy for Para and Persons with disabilities, I feel happy to announce that we have already initiated the process in order to take Para Sports to greater heights.”
Inter-State Blind Cricket Tournament
The Inter-state Blind Cricket Tournament is being held at Dharbandoda which is being played by six teams including Goa. The 20 over match with the basic rules of Cricket is being played by four completely blind players, three who can see up to a distance of 2mts and four with 6mtsvision. The final will be played at the Gymkhana on Sunday and results will be declared on the same day.
Purple I-Run Goa Marathon
Purple I-Run Goa Marathon,Goa’s first National Marathon for 21 types of disabilities organised by the Office of the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Goa will be held at the Shayama Prasad Mukharjee Stadium, Bambolim will take place on the last day of the inclusive festival here on Sunday.
