Awareness on energy conservation is the need of the hour, stated Minister for Power Shri Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar after releasing the Energy Club Manual, a comprehensive Guide at the National Energy Conservation Day programme organised by the State Designated Agency, Electricity Department Goa in the city today.

Secretary to Power Shri Ajit Roy, IAS, Chief Electrical Engineer, Shri Stephen Fernandes; Director, Goa Science Centre; Shri Vilas Chowdhari; Superintending Engineer, Shri Mayur Hede and Shri Rajiv Samant, Nodal Officer, Electricity Department were present on the occasion.

      Shri Dhavalikar informed that Goa is the only State in the country to provide quality power because of continuous efforts of conservation of energy and stressed the need to take initiatives to conserve energy and to save the environment. Energy Club Manual, a comprehensive Guide, a one-stop guide for teachers will be distributed to all the educational institutions across the state to start and run an energy club in their schools, he added.    

He said that the department is organising various competitions and through such competition we create awareness on the ways to conserve energy. He said the mobile vans are visiting every taluka, Primary Schools and Higher secondary Schools to make them aware about Energy Conservation and to disseminate information about how to manage the energy sufficient service. He said street plays can be used as an effective tool used for creating mass awareness and advised the Department to implement the same.

   Shri Dhavalikar also distributed Prizes to the winners of Essay and Painting Competitions organised by Goa Science Centre, Miramar in collaboration with State Designated Agency, Electricity Department Goa on the occasion.

Secretary to Power, Shri Ajit Roy, IAS speaking on the occasion said Energy Conservation should be a way of life and students can play a vital role in adhering to various measures implemented towards energy saving. Today demand for power is more than supply, so it’s important that whatever energy is being generated needs to be used effectively. Try to save as much energy as one can. Efficiency and conservation go hand in hand; conservation can be done primarily through behaviour changes. Efficiency can be improved with some technological innovation. Resources used for power generation have a lot of impact on the environment. Students need to think on more innovative measures wherein power could be generated in a better and cleaner way, he added.

Shri Stephen Fernandes, Chief Electrical Engineer also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier Shri Rajiv Samant, Nodal Officer welcomed while Shri Mayur Hede, Superintending Engineer later proposed vote of thanks.
