YOUTHS SHOULD BE EMPOWERED WITH LIFE SKILLS: COL SRINIVAS

PANAJI: Group Commander of NCC Belgaum Group Col K Srinivas said that India is developing country with a young population having security challenges within and from outside. It is therefore important to empower the youth with not only employability skills but with life skills. NCC, he said is in the business of empowerment of the youth to make them dynamic leaders of tomorrow.

Col Srinivas was speaking as Chief Guest at The Navhind Times Ex-Achievers awards function held at Sanskruti Bhavan, Patto-Panaji on Thursday.

Speaking further, Col Srinivas said that the Military content of the NCC curriculum will be helpful to address the security issues of the nation. NCC, he said is the largest volunteer organisation in the country with a massive footprint. Each cadet needs to be seen as a catalyst /agent towards nation building.

The Group Commander emphasised that the National Integration is the bedrock of the NCC. Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat Camps are being conducted towards this aim. National Projection is taken care of by Youth Exchange Programe. India’s soft power gets projected by the participants of YEP. National Security aspects, he said can be addressed by NCC by a little reorientation in training when required. Expansion of NCC in Border and Coastal areas is a step towards the same.

Speaking about the Challenges in NCC, he said Online training due to pandemic – needs to be implemented now and Motivation of Youth in present day materialistic world where they do not want to work hard.

Navhind Times Publication general manager Pramod Rivonkar also spoke on the occasion.

The Commanding Officer of 1 Goa Battalion NCC, Col Manoj Rathore was also present on the occasion.

Vasantrao Krishnarao Mahadik for outstanding performance as ANO and for social service, Sunil Jagganath Shet for his outstanding performance in education. Prakash T Naik for outstanding performance in Cooperative and Banking Sector, Govind S Lotlikar, DGM (Fire and Safety) for his outstanding performance in Fire Safety Administration. Laxmi J Parab for outstanding performance in the field of Sports. Pravind J Gawas –Mamlatdar in Collectorate for his outstanding performance as Civil Services officer. Nirmal Ulhas Kulkarni, for his outstanding performance in the field Herpetology/Nature photographer. Bhavana Vishnu Chodankar, Lady Police Head Constable for her outstanding performance in the field of Policing, Mavis Henriques Co-Coordinator and clinical psychologist for Parkinsons Society Goa for her commendable and outstanding service to community, Asis Acharya for his outstanding performance in the field of Entertainment. Emberson Da Silva for his outstanding performance in the field of Accounts, Prasad Shet Kankonkar for his contribution in Journalism and Pallavi Vinay Salgaonkar for her outstanding performance in the field of teaching were presented the awards and certificates at the hands of the Group Commander Col Srinivasan.

An essay competition was also held by the Association for NCC Cadets. The prizes were presented on the occasion.

One minute silence was observed on the occasion as mark of respect to the departed soul of Prof Edward D’Lima, who was ANO in NCC.

Earlier, EX-NCC Cadets Association president Pramod Naik welcomed the gathering. Project coordinator Pradeep Sawant explained the idea behind instituting such awards. Secretary Pallavi Salgaonkar presented report of activities. Senior advisor John Aguiar proposed a vote of thanks.
