CM CONVENES HIGH POWERED COMMITTEE TO RESOLVE SONSODO GARBAGE ISSUE ON 10 FEBRUARY
PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed Members in Goa Legislative Assembly that he will convene a meeting of High Powered Committee (HPC) to resolve the Sonsodo garbage issue.
Intervening during discussion on starred question tabled by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco on status of Sonsodo garbage dump, Sawant said HPC consisting of Ministers, MLAs and departments, will be called on 10 February to resolve all issues pertaining to Sonsodo garbage dump.
Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo announced to everyone’s surprise that not seven but only one bio-methanation plant akin to state-of-the-art Saligao solid waste management plant will be installed at Sonsodo and ongoing remediation of legacy waste dump will be completed by May 2021.

Fatroda MLA Vijai Sardesai alleged that there was a tug of war between Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and Michael Lobo due to which things were not moving forward.
The Chief Minister assured House to call for the file which reportedly has been kept pending by Naik. It was also pointed out that Rs 47 crore was given by Margao Municipal Council to Goa Waste Management Corporation and still nothing was done.
