Parents deserve full credit for their children’s success due to their efforts and sacrifices, said Chairman of the Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai.
He was speaking at the felicitation ceremony of meritorious students of Class 10th and 12th from the Cumbarjua constituency who scored 80% and above, held at Corlim on Sunday.
Present were Chief Guest, renowned mathematician Master Basavaraj Shankar Umarani, Sarpanch Sachin Gaude, Panch members Nandakumar Shet and Sapana Bhomkar, BJP Mandal President Yogesh Pilgaonkar, Yogesh Shetye, Smita Sawant, and other dignitaries.
Umarani felicitated around 50 meritorious students from the Cumbarjua constituency who scored 80% and above in Class 10th and 12th for the academic year 2024–2025.
Each student was honoured with a token of appreciation of ₹5,000.
“Achieving 80% in exams is no mean feat. It takes a lot of hard work, sacrifice, and effort. Hence, I congratulate all of you. Parents take great pains to send their children to school, like getting up early in the morning, so they also deserve credit for this success and that is why we are able to complete our education. Parents even have concern for their children till their marriage,” he said.
Faldessai added that he arranged for Umarani’s presence at the event as students need such exposure.
“The children of our constituency are talented, and hence they get such exposure so that they learn something from him. I request parents also not to force them into conventional professions like engineers and doctors, as every field today is important and has opportunities. I have been organising such programmes to motivate our children so that they do well in their lives,” the MLA said.
Children should respect their parents, he emphasised.
“Parents make a lot of efforts and are anxious to ensure their children do well in their careers. Hence, children should respect their parents. If you have any problems in future like admissions, education, etc., then please inform me. I am focusing on health, education and sports. In fact, the Chief Minister is coming on July 15 to lay the foundation stone for groundwork worth ₹4 crore at Cumbarjua, and we will complete this work within a year. Our development works are ongoing,” he said.
