PANAJI: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and the Directorate of Art & Culture, is set to host Shiv Mahotsav 2025 at Satpal Ground, Sacorda- Mollem, Dharbandora on February 25.

This festival held in celebration of Maha Shivratri, will be a grand showcase of Goa’s rich spiritual traditions, culture, and artistic heritage.

During the press conference, GTDC Chairman Dr Ganesh Gaonkar announced that the grand festival will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, Shripad Naik and Minister for Tourism, IT, Electronics & Communications, and Printing & Stationery, Rohan A Khaunte.

Chairman further elaborated on the festival’s key attractions, stating that the event will feature a series of captivating performances and cultural showcases. These will include a Dhol Tasha performance by Barabhumi Sansthan, symbolizing the rhythmic energy of Shiv Ganas, a spellbinding Bharatanatyam performance on Shiva Bhakti by Pavitra Bhat, a Nrutya Natika on Shiv Sthuti performed by Barabhumi Sansthan, and a divine Ganga Aarti ceremony.

Adding to the grandeur of the celebration, the legendary Bollywood singer Sudesh Bhosle will present devotional compositions, including Shiv Stuti and Bhakti Geet, creating a soulful musical experience. The festival will also witness special appearances by Indian actress Sonalee Kulkarni and singer-musician Avadhoot Gupte.

Chairman also stated that the GTDC will organise the Fancy Dress Competition for children aged 12 years and younger, themed around Hindu Mythological Characters or Different Avatars of Lord Shiva. The top three winners of the competition will be awarded prize money of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,500, and Rs 5,000, along with certificates. Furthermore, 10 consolation prizes of Rs. 1,000 each will also be awarded to encourage participation and recognize young talent.

On February 26th, Prasad distribution will be held at Shri Mahadeva Temple premises at Tambdi Surla.

Speaking about the festival’s significance, the chairman highlighted that Shiv Mahotsav is an important initiative under GTDC’s Hinterland Tourism promotion efforts. He noted that the event is expected to attract devotees, tourists, artists, and cultural enthusiasts from across the state, fostering a greater appreciation for Goa’s cultural and spiritual heritage. As part of the Goa Beyond Beaches campaign, the festival will also promote the historic Mahadev Temple, Tambdi Surla—an ASI-protected monument and part of the Ekadasha Teertha temple circuit—bringing renewed attention to Goa’s sacred landmarks.

The theme song for the Shiv Mahotsav 2025 was also launched during the conference, which will be played during the event .

Also present during the conference were GTDC Managing Director Kuldeep Arolkar; General Manager Gavin Dias and Dy General Manager Deepak Narvekar.
