ZILLA PANCHAYAT ELECTIONS EITHER ON 9TH JANUARY OR 16TH JANUARY: MAUVIN GODINHO
VASCO: Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho On Wednesday said that he has proposed two dates ie 9th January or 16 January 2021 to hold the deferred Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections.

Mauvin sought to know from where media got the new that ZP elections will be held on 12th December and said that elections cannot be held on 12 December because the date is too near and people will be in impending festival mood.
“I have proposed two new dates 9th January or 16th January 2021 and I hope COVID infection will be low, and we want to keep safe by following different SOP. The file has been sent to the Chief Minister, who in consultation with the State Election Commissioner and with me will decide,” said Mauvin.
When his attention was drawn to a petition filed in the court seeking to start ZP election process afresh, Mauvin clarified that here are clear cut Supreme Court decisions which states that once electoral process has started and once it is halted at a certain stage we cannot alter anything and we have to proceed from that stage.”
